Our wildlife drive takes us along back roads into “Big Cypress Preserve,” the 780,000 acre national park which was purchased by the federal government in the 70’s. This is primarily a fresh water area and home to a vast array of plant and animal life.

A 2.25-mile raised boardwalk takes visitors through four distinct environments: a pine upland, a wet prairie, a cypress forest, and a marsh. Interpretive signs along the boardwalk and a field guide and Children's Activity Book available at the admissions desk in the Blair Center allow each visitor to take the self-guided tour. Benches and rain shelters are along the trail. For those who do not wish to walk the full 2.25 miles, an optional trail shortens the walk to one mile. Volunteer naturalists are usually on the boardwalk to answer questions. Allow about 2-3 hours.

Lakes Park is a popular recreational area in Fort Myers. The 279-acre park has 158 acres of fresh water lakes for swimming, fishing for bass and catfish, and canoeing. Swimming season with lifeguards is Memorial Day to Labor Day. A 2.5-mile paved path is available for running, roller blades and biking. The Fragrance Garden is a unique sensory experience. There are also picnic areas, concession stands, miniature train ride, boat rentals and showers. Parking is 75 cents per hour, maximum USD3. No alcohol or pets allowed.

It is an important part of a larger project, North Collier Regional Park, which offers many amenities making Sun-N-Fun Lagoon the perfect day trip destination. North Collier Regional Park offers beautiful preserve tours from the Exhibit Hall on foot and in trams.
